June 4, 2017, is the first annual DIRTY DOZEN. Twelve drivers will play and compete on the 1/4 mile high bank Abilene Speedway dirt track. The field is open to pre 1928 race cars and race cars that are predominately period correct to some time prior to 1928.
Three spots were claimed before this announcement and 9 spots remain. If you would like more information, or are ready to reserve a spot, email jim@mccathren.com.
This is a non profit venture. A participation fee of $175 per car covers track rental costs, track expenses, and pit pass for driver and mechanic. Additional pit passes are available for a nominal cost. The track has cleared insurance issues and required safety equipment includes seat belts, helmets, and eye protection (either face shield or goggles).
Racing will begin with timed laps with the field then divided into 2 groups based upon times. Racing is head to head with two cars on the track at a time. Each car races every other car in its group and everyone gets equal track time. Then, the winners of each group race each other for ultimate bragging rights. Following that, grudge matches for the remaining time.
The event begins promptly at 11 am and concludes at 4 pm.
This year's Dirty Dozen have first choice at next year's event.
